Being Nice and Doing Good with Colectivo TAN 473

Kyle and I are missing our second home and the subject of my new Reliquaries series, Guanajuato, Mexico, a lot this year. Not because of the foot of snow and single digit temperatures here in Kansas City, but because of our beautiful friends there that are doing good work. Since this year we can’t be there to volunteer, we were hoping that you could lend a hand by Being Nice and Doing Good. Find out the campaign details to win free artwork.

What can you win this month besides the smiles on some precious faces? This!

update (3/5): This month’s winner has been selected. Congratulations Bruce!

Happy Birthday to Us!

Kyle and I are soaking up the sights, sounds and flavors of New Orleans for our birthdays. (Thats right, plural, we try to be efficient around here.)

But I wanted to stop by and remind you that January is coming to its end, which means it’s your last chance to be included in the drawing for this piece of artwork in my Be Nice & Do Good campaign.

So how about showing a little birthday love by donating a few bucks to help the Midwest Music Foundation do their good work. In addition to the karmic points you’d be building, maybe you’ll get a present for my birthday! (bonus points for helping spread the word)

Don’t know what the heck I am talking about? Start here.

What can I win besides that good feeling deep in my soul?

Inspired by the dauggereotypes of the early 19th century, for this piece I paired a Polaroid emulsion transfer with copper that I patinated with acids and flame. I worked on this series from 2000 until the end of Polaroid’s production in 2008. Revisiting this piece reminds me how much I appreciate the varied and organic quality of the copper combined with the image. With only half a dozen of these original copper and Polaroid pieces left, and without the means to create more, looking through them again is like visiting old friends.

Be Nice & Do Good

The New Year is full of platitudes and easily dismissed resolutions. High on holiday sweets and delirious from so much love and social interaction, we vow to be better in every way in the upcoming year – to do more, to eat less, to speak up, to slow down, to experience more, to love better.

I am the worst. My list of resolutions is as long as my arm (and if written there perhaps they would stick a little longer). But in the end, it really only amounts to two things: Be Nice and Do Good

Lucky for us, my community is full of people doing exactly that, and by giving them a helping hand we can be one step closer to living our resolutions this year.

So here’s the Deal:

  1. Every month I will select a piece of artwork to give away. (I still have some fabulous pieces from previous series that deserve a great home.)
  2. Continue reading »
