I created the Mile Marker series in response to the speed and frenetic nature of modern life. Using the orotone and daguerreotype as inspirations, I utilize modern technology to print open landscapes onto gold-painted steel plates, creating a visual pause to take a breath and dream.

During the progression from the darkroom to the computer, I recognized the importance of my tactile connection to the images, the meditation of working physically in concert with the materials, allowing the humanness of the hand to be seen. Drawing inspiration from the earliest photographer/scientists, I create modern ways to explore the photograph as object, combining old and new to make works that have the elegance and artifacts found in the historic processes. Anachronistically, each piece that I create is singular; the material, handwork, and image combine to form an original object, one that lives outside the world of reproduction.
